Floor mats and carpet sets for the Bus

Carpet sets, floor mats for the VW Bus T2 – fitting out the interior floor correctly

Carpet sets, floor mats cover a large part of the VW Bus T2 interior floor and combine a clean appearance with practical protection for the areas underneath. The category is divided into accessories, loop carpet sets and floor mats, covering different sections of the T2. It includes carpet sets, coconut-fibre floor mats, rubber mats for the cab, walkthrough and load or passenger compartment, rubber coverings for the steps and trim for wheel arches and seat boxes. Cab insulation is also listed. Since several versions differ according to production period, installation position, colour and vehicle configuration, you should first determine exactly which area of your VW Bus T2 is to be renewed or restored.

Why are carpet sets, floor mats important in the VW Bus T2?

Suitable carpet sets, floor mats ensure that heavily used floor areas inside the vehicle are covered cleanly. The cab, steps and walkthrough in particular are regularly exposed to wear from shoes and daily use. A suitable rubber mat or floor mat protects the surface underneath and can be matched to the respective vehicle version. Carpet sets also have a visual function and help create a complete interior appearance. The category does not focus only on the visible floor, however: rubber coverings for front and rear seat boxes and mats for the front wheel arches are also included. This makes it possible to restore the floor area of a T2 much more comprehensively than with a single driver's floor mat.

When should I renew carpet sets and floor mats in my VW Bus T2?

Renewal is advisable when existing floor mats are heavily worn, torn, deformed or no longer match the rest of the interior. Carpets with noticeable damage or missing floor coverings can also be replaced during restoration. Precise identification of the installation position is particularly important, as the category distinguishes between cab, walkthrough, load or passenger compartment, step, wheel arch and seat box. Different versions are also available for different production periods. On vehicles that have already been restored or modified, you should therefore not rely solely on the model year but inspect the actual floor construction and currently installed floor coverings directly.

How are carpet sets and floor mats selected and fitted in the VW Bus T2?

When choosing new carpet sets, floor mats, the installation area, production period, material type and existing interior configuration are the most important selection criteria.

• Identify the installation area precisely: Determine whether you need a mat for the cab, walkthrough, load or passenger compartment, step, wheel arch or seat box.
• Compare the production period carefully: Pay particular attention to the differences shown in the category between early and later T2 versions, for example for cab and coconut-fibre mats.
• Select material and appearance appropriately: Depending on your interior concept, choose between carpet, coconut-fibre or rubber versions and consider colour options such as grey, black or multi-coloured coconut mats.
• Inspect the surface before fitting: Check the floor area for dirt, moisture and existing insulation so that the carpet or mat can lie evenly without unwanted irregularities.

If several floor areas are being restored at the same time, it is useful to plan carpet, mats, insulation and adjacent trim as one overall system. This makes it easier to coordinate the different versions.

Which carpet sets, floor mats fit my VW Bus T2?

When selecting suitable carpet sets, floor mats, the production period and intended area are particularly important. The category includes a grey carpet set for the T2 from 08/1967 to 07/1972 as well as coconut-fibre floor mats for the periods 1967 to 1972 and 1972 to 1979 in various colour combinations.
